Compiling the information for each of the 100+ recipes was the most educational exercise I've ever done. Over 55 award winning beers were examined throughly in order carefully formulate both malt extract and all-grain versions of these recipes. These are some of the best commercially brewed beers in the world. I had the privilege of tasting each one of them while taking extensive notes. Also each beer was analyzed by a laboratory. And all but one of the winning breweries shared at least the basic information regarding their recipes. Using my 28 years of brewing experience I scaled down all the data to 5 gallon recipes for each of the 60 categories of beer styles judged at the 1996 World Beer Cup Competition. You'll recognize many famous brands of beer here. And the ones you don't recognize, you'll want to know about. I learned a lot and obviously I had fun putting this book together and sharing formulations for some of the world's greatest brewing traditions. I often refer to the winning beer brewers data to help formulate my own 5 gallon batches of homebrew.
